The 2019 Great Taste Awards have been announced and we’ve added another 17 stars to our Great Taste Star trophy cabinet meaning we’ve achieved an outstanding number of 99 stars since we first entered our ingredients just six years ago.
Since 1994, producers have been entering their goods to be judged by a panel of more than 500 food lovers and international industry professionals including chefs, restaurateurs and writers who benchmark the ingredients based on taste and their position within the retail environment.
This year more than 12,366 products were entered and put to the test during the 3 month process of fastidious blind tastings across the London base and Dorset HQ.
We sent a selection of our oils, vinegars, nuts, grains and culinary pastes to be judged at the Dorset branch and, more than 50% of our ingredients were awarded a star rating.
Our Rose Harissa Paste won the coveted 3* award, praised by the judges for being rich and deep with a beautifully complex flavour. They also commented on the smoky, spicy flavour which is incredibly versatile and can be used on a wide variety of dishes.
However, the Rose Harissa was not the only 3* winner among our collection, the Truffle & Artichoke also won 3*. The judges thought that the the selection of nuts was varied with an enticing aroma of cheese and truffle, with it being a very interesting flavour concept.
Only approximately 25% of entrants qualify for the 1* rating that classifies ingredients as food that delivers fantastic flavour and that are, quite simply, delicious. This year we’re adding ten new products to our expanding list:
Our resident innovation chef Henry Russell says: “I was lucky enough to be invited to take part in the London judging panel and was overwhelmed by the diversity of products on offer. The overall standard was extremely high however, I’m not surprised that our ingredients were listed amongst the stars as we really do work with the best suppliers who share our core values and in turn, we’re able to produce ingredients that truly are a cut above the rest.
