5 Medjool dates, stones removed and roughly chopped

175g unsalted butter, softened

6tbsp Tahini

¼tsp ground cinnamon

Hot cross buns to serve


  1. Place the dates in a small bowl and pour boiling water over until just covered. Leave to soak for ten minutes. Drain the water off, then chop the dates vigorously until a coarse paste is formed.
  2. Place the softened butter, dates, Tahini and cinnamon in a bowl and whip together with a small whisk. If the mix gets too soft, place in the fridge to firm up. Take it out of the fridge prior to using to allow it to soften up.
  3. Spread liberally over toasted hot cross buns and enjoy!
